(Yicai Global) Aug. 23 -- To save on electricity, landmark buildings and riverfront promenades along the Huangpu in Shanghai are turning off their lights at night.
The coastal Chinese city stopped illuminating curtain walls at the Bund, the North Bund, and the Small Lujiazui area yesterday and today, while iconic buildings such as Fairmont Peace Hotel and the Oriental Pearl Tower turned off outside lighting.
A number of other cities in neighboring Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces also have called on businesses and households to cut down on power use.
A swathe of buildings along the Huangpu turned off their external lights last night.
The Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, and the Garden Bridge of Shanghai stand darkened, with only the lights inside high-rise blocks illuminating the night sky.
People take photos on the darkened Bund.
The lights on the iconic green rooftop of the Fairmont Peace Hotel at the Bund take a rest.
