(Yicai) April 23 -- Rescue efforts are still underway in Jiangwan, a town under the city of Shaoguan in the north part of southern Guangdong province that has been hit by severe flooding after days of torrential rain, prompting the local government to launch a Level 4 disaster relief response.
Fire and rescue authorities have sent hundreds of staff as well as drainage equipment, boats, fire trucks and drones to the area, after days of continuous heavy rainfall in the Beijiang River Basin, located in the north of the Pearl River Basin, caused the river to rise rapidly.
The clean up effort is underway, with rescue teams clearing sludge and debris from main roads and bringing in supplies for stranded residents.
Torrential rain is set to continue to fall in the province for the next two days, authorities said.
Excavators clear sludge from the surface of the town’s main roads.
Water levels in the river that runs through the town remain high although the flooding has subsided.
Rescue teams clear debris and sludge from one the main streets in the center of town.
The jagged mountain face is exposed following landslides.
More relief supplies from the Guangdong provincial government arrive by helicopter.
