(Yicai) April 22 -- The Chinese Navy is showcasing two active warships to Shanghai residents for the first time.

Today and tomorrow, residents of the eastern megacity can visit the new-generation Type 052C guided-missile destroyer Xi’an (hull number 153) and the Type 071 large dock landing ship Yimengshan (988) at the Shanghai Port International Passenger Terminal, Yicai learned.

The two warships were docked at Shanghai’s North Bund earlier today.

Commissioned in 2016, Yimengshan has a maximum displacement of nearly 20,000 tons. Today marks the first time it is open to the public.

The vessels represent the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army Navy and China’s growing efforts to strengthen its maritime presence.

The Xi’an destroyer is equipped with advanced weapons systems and high-tech equipment independently developed in China.
