(Yicai Global) Oct. 9 -- Movie theatres owned by IMAX China Holding Inc. [HKG:1970] grossed a total of CNY52.84 million (USD8 million) during the country's eight-day National Day holiday, which ran from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8 this year, marking the company's best performance to date for the period and a 98.4 percent increase from last year, reported online technology news outlet Ifeng today.
New movies Never Say Die and The Foreigner premiered at 450 IMAX theatres during the holiday. Chinese sports comedy Never Say Die had grossed CNY1.4 billion (USD212 million) as of Oct. 8, ranking first among all movies released over the holiday period, while English-language thriller The Foreigner ranked second with takings of about CNY440 million (USD66.66 million).
Major new films such as Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Geostorm and Thor: Ragnarok will hit Chinese IMAX screens soon.
