(Yicai) Nov. 8 -- InterContinental Hotels Group has brought its new hotel brands that it developed to tap the potential of the Chinese market to the sixth China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
IHG exhibited new brands Vignette Collection, Voco, and Garner Hotels at the CIIE.
As China’s urban renewal project is progressing, the reform of hotels’ assets has been accelerating.IHG’s three new brands are designed for existing hotels, including boutique, high-end, and mid-to-high-end ones, Daniel Aylmer, IHG’s managing director for China, told Yicai. They are flexible, highly efficient, and easy to transform, he added.
IHG is developing a franchise model in China, with five of its hotel brands in the country having already opened for franchise. As of the beginning of November, IHG hotels operating under the franchise model accounted for about 37 percent of the company’s total in China and 50 percent of those under construction, Aylmer noted.
Other international hotel titans are also speeding up their expansion in the Chinese market.
Marriott International unveiled its new development philosophy, “brand plus destination,” at the CIIE this year, hoping to combine the upstream and downstream reaches of the tourism industry to change hotels into all-scenario consumption destinations based on travelers’ demand.
The number of Marriott hotels in China has nearly doubled since the firm took part in the first CIIE in 2018.
