(Yicai Global) Feb. 24 -- Huolala has expressed extreme remorse to the family of a customer who died when she lept out of one of the Chinese on-demand trucking services provider’s removal vans and has said it will overhaul its safety measures, including installing dash cams in all vehicles.

Huolala extends its sincere apologies to the family of 23-year-old Ms. Che, who died on Feb. 6 when travelling in a Huolala van that was transporting her belongings to a new home, and will not shirk from its responsibilities, the Shanghai-based company said today.

The driver, surnamed Zhou, has been arrested by police on charges of negligent manslaughter, police in Changsha, central Hunan province said yesterday. It is not yet known why the young lady jumped, but the driver changed route several times along the way. She later died of head injuries sustained from her fall. The case is still under investigation.

Chief Executive Officer Zhou Shengfu will immediately set up a special team to investigate the incident and take all necessary action, the firm said. From March 14, Huolala will record all journeys when a passenger and driver travel together and enhance other safety measures.

The on-demand trucking services provider failed in three main areas, it said. First, it was completely unaware of the incident until informed by police. Second, its safety measures have been shown to be inadequate and it should have in-car recordings. Third, it has been slow to respond, compounding the family’s grief.
