Huawei’s Mate 70 Pre-Orders Top One Million on First Day Huawei’s Mate 70 Pre-Orders Top One Million on First Day

(Yicai) Nov. 18 -- Huawei Technologies began taking pre-orders today for its latest flagship smartphone series, the Mate 70, with the Chinese tech giant announcing that it has already received more than one million reservations.

Shenzhen-based Huawei said it would hold a launch event on Nov. 26 to formally release a series of new products, including the Mate 70 lineup.

Full details of the Mate 70 have not yet been released, but it is expected to be the first phone to come equipped with the company’s self-developed operating system, HarmonyOS Next, as well as Huawei’s own chips.

China’s smartphone market remains strong. Shipments grew for the fourth quarter in a row in the three months ended Sept. 30, gaining 3.2 percent from a year ago to 68.8 million units, per a report by International Data Corporation. Huawei had the third-largest market share at 15.3 percent.

There have been reports that Huawei's Mate 60 series sold more than 10 million units in the first 10 months following its launch last year, but the company has not confirmed this figure.

Huawei is likely to ship between 3.2 million and 3.5 million Mate 70 phones this year, Guoyuan Securities said in a research note issued in mid-July.

The Mate 70 will be joining a fiercely competitive marketplace, with sales of Apple's iPhone 16 series having been boosted by various promotions, including a price cut during the recent Double 11 shopping festival.

Apple’s newest handset was already proving popular in the Chinese market, with iPhone 16 sales 20 percent higher in the first three weeks after launch than those of the iPhone 15 series, data from Counterpoint Research showed.
