(Yicai Global) Dec. 24 -- Huawei Technologies has launched its first vertically-foldable smartphone, the P50 Pocket, and divulged the name of the first smart vehicle equipped with the Chinese telecom giant’s in-house operating system, HarmonyOS.
Priced at between CNY8,988 and CNY10,988 (USD1,400 and USD1,725), the Huawei P50 Pocket has a 6.9-inch and 21:9 ratio foldable main screen, the Shenzhen-based firm said at a product launch event yesterday. The phone unlocks via main and cover screen face recognition and side fingerprint reader.
The first motor to use HarmonyOS will be the Aito M5, a new sports utility vehicle made by Sokon Industry unit SF Motors. Equipped with all-in-one electric drive system Huawei DriveOne, it costs CNY250,000 to CNY320,000 (USD39,200 and USD50,200) before government subsidies. The Aito M5 can reach 100 kilometers an hour in 4.4 seconds and can travel 1,242 km on a single charge.
The Aito M5 integrates the advantages of Huawei’s industrial design, engineering technologies, and system software with the HarmonyOS as a future product of Huawei Smart Selection, said Yu Chengdong, the firm’s executive director and chief executive officer of the Consumer Business Group and the Intelligent Automotive Solution business unit.
Huawei produces vehicle parts and helps manufacturers to develop and sell high-quality vehicles, but does not make cars, Yu pointed out.
At present, there are over 320 million products in the world powered by HarmonyOS, as it has become the third fastest-growing smart operating system globally, Yu added.
At the yesterday’s launch event, Huawei also released a new smartwatch, the Watch D, and its first HarmonyOS-based smart glasses.
