(Yicai Global) Oct. 27 -- Huawei Technologies vowed to delete fake news reports after China’s cyberspace watchdog ordered the county’s major browser operators to check the spread of false information.
“We’ll fulfill our main responsibility to deeply reflect on the shortcomings in our content review process and other aspects and strengthen internal management,” Huawei said in a statement posted on its WeChat account today. China’s biggest maker of smartphones runs Huawei Browser.
Faced with a flood of fake news online, the Cyberspace Administration of China kicked off a so-called rectification round of mobile internet browsers yesterday, involving those of Huawei, UC, QQ, 360, Sogou, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
Shenzhen-based Huawei also said it will strictly manage so-called we media accounts, online news sources run by individuals and groups. The seven other browser operators have yet to respond.
The CAC has put forward clear rectification requirements and specific standards for mobile browsers, including refraining from publishing online news compiled by we media that violates regulations or is false, exaggerated, offensive or insulting, has sensationalist headlines and content that is vulgar, bloody or of poor quality.
