(Yicai Global) June 14 -- Huawei Technologies has reportedly linked arms with Chinese automakers, including Chery Automobile, to install the tech giant’s self-developed HarmonyOS operating system in new vehicle models.
Huawei reached agreements with Chery, JAC Motors, and Arcfox, media outlet 36Kr reported today, citing people familiar with the matter. Shenzhen-based Huawei will cooperate with Chery on at least two models, with JAC on at least one, and with Arcfox on another.
Huawei will choose the models that will be equipped with HarmonyOS and will participate in the product definition, selection of core components, as well as the development and production of the vehicle platforms, the source added, noting that Huawei will sell the models at its China stores
Aito Wenjie M5, a sports utility vehicle jointly launched by Huawei and Jinkang Seres Automobile began deliveries in March. More than 5,000 were delivered in May, not a bad performance considering that Chinese electric vehicle startups such as Nio and Li Auto usually sell about 10,000 a month.
