(Yicai Global) May 4 -- Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo are still the top three in mobile phone shipments, but Huawei has risen to the apex, with OPPO second in a shift from last year's fourth-quarter.
China's first-quarter smartphone market report third-party research firm International Data Corp. (IDC) recently released indicates this change, Netease Technology reported.
China's top five [NASDAQ:AAPL] and Xiaomi Corp., IDC's data shows.smart phone manufacturers in the first quarter were: Huawei Technologies Co., OPPO Digital Inc., Vivo Mobile Communications Co., Apple Inc.
Among them, Huawei ranked first with a 20.0 percent market share, OPPO second with 18.2 percent share, followed by Vivo with 14.1 percent.
Compared with the fourth quarter of 2016, Huawei's market share surpassed that of OPPO, ranking first. Huawei's mobile phone shipments grew 25.5 percent in the first quarter. In contrast, Apple's China market shipments fell 26.7 percent over the same period.
This corresponds to Apple's just-released second-quarter revenue data for this year. Its mobile phone sales have been on the wane for five consecutive quarters in Greater China, which was the only region where it logged negative growth in the quarter.
Though Apple has led the high-end market, top-shelf domestic mobile phone brands have grown rapidly, with the rise of OPPO and Vivo particularly significant, IDC noted.
