(Yicai) Dec. 21 -- Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies plans to make its backup software open-source next year to meet the demand for efficient data backup and safety in scenarios like smart finance and autonomous driving.
Huawei announced it would release open-eBackup to the public at the release conference for the new products of its OceanProtect data-protection series yesterday.
Huawei has prepared for the open-source of open-eBackup for over two years. The Shenzhen-based company plans to put the product into open-source community openEuler in the first half of next year to share the source code, recruit developers, and provide development tools.
Chinese people have a weak awareness of data backup, with backlogged backup architecture, lagging core technologies, low data backup rate in key industries, and hidden dangers in data security, Zhou Yuefeng, Huawei’s vice president and president of the firm’s data storage product line, said at the conference. Therefore, Huawei will continue to invest in core storage technologies and share backup software technologies, Zhou added.
Huawei has provided safe and reliable data protection services to more than 10,000 corporate customers in over 120 countries and regions worldwide.
At the conference, Huawei released two new data protection products: OceanProtect X9000 and OceanProtect E8000. They have an industry-leading data reduction rate, with the first having the best backup performance in the industry.
