(Yicai) Feb. 10 -- Chinese mobile phone manufacturers, including Huawei Technologies and Nubia Technology, are deploying artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek’s large language model R1 in their smartphones to give users an enhanced experience.
Nubia has chosen to embed DeepSeek into its system more deeply to create a full-blooded version of DeepSeek, Ni Fei, president of the subsidiary of telecoms equipment giant ZTE, said in a post on Weibo today.
Nubia is integrating the full-scale DeepSeek of 671 billion parameters into its phones, which requires a lot of research and development, Ni said. Shenzhen-based Nubia’s new Z70 Ultra model is currently undergoing internal testing.
Huawei’s virtual assistant Xiaoyi, which is based on the native HarmonyOS operating system, has been connected to DeepSeek-R1, the Shenzhen-based tech giant said on Feb. 5. Huawei users can talk to the chatbot through Xiaoyi to enjoy a seamless AI experience.
Honor’s Yoyo Store launched the pilot version of DeepSeek-R1 on Feb. 8, becoming the second mobile phone manufacturer to link arms with Hangzhou-based DeepSeek.
Oppo is integrating its folding phone Oppo Find N5 with DeepSeek-R1, the Dongguan-based smartphone maker said on Feb. 8. Users can use it directly through voice commands, and they do not need to download it or perform complex installation procedures. The phone can also export the results generated by DeepSeek-R1 as files for users to retain and use.
Other top mobile phone makers Xiaomi and Vivo have yet to disclose their DeepSeek access plans.
