Huawei's New 9X Phone Can Help Unlock the Mysteries of the Universe Huawei's New 9X Phone Can Help Unlock the Mysteries of the Universe

(Yicai Global) July 24 -- The 9X, the latest smartphone of Huawei Technology's Honor brand, can share its unused computing power with scientific research projects under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Giving over mobile computing power to such projects gives volunteers the chance to learn about and participate in scientific research while also helping to solve fundamental problems that need a lot of computer resources, Xinhua cited Honor President Zhao Ming as saying.

The Honor 9X series was unveiled in Xi'an, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, yesterday.

The collaboration between Honor and CAS' Institute of High Energy Physics will provide future resources to the Circular Electron-Positron Collider. The project team expects to build a prototype of a series of key components by 2022 that are needed to explore the origin of the universe and the composition of matter.

Using Huawei's latest Kirin 810 chip not only gives the 9X an artificial intelligence-powered computing ability but also plays a key role in taking photos and game-performance optimization, Zhao said, adding that the Kirin 810's performance is 75 percent better than the earlier generation Honor 8X's central processing unit.

The Honor X series is a cheaper model targeting young consumers. A total of five products in two models priced at between CNY1,399 (USD203) and CNY2,399, were introduced at the launch event.
