(Yicai) Oct. 9 -- Huawei Technologies is still working with contract manufacturer Hong Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn, the Chinese tech giant said yesterday on social media in response to rumors that it had split from the iPhone assembler due to quality issues.
Huawei, which has just launched its Mate 60 handset series, is no longer outsourcing to Foxconn and is mainly using BYD, which also makes cars and batteries, as its contract manufacturer, according to rumors swirling recently on social media.
Workers at Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen’s Longhua district are busy working on the Huawei and Apple’s latest cellphones. Those assembling Huawei’s mobile phones at the plant are paid more than those making Apple’s iPhones at CNY26 (USD3.60) per hour compared with CNY21 per hour, recruitment agents told Yicai last month.
Huawei faced similar rumors before in 2019 when the Shenzhen-based company was subject to sanctions in the US. Foxconn denied the rumors at the time.
