Huawei’s HarmonyOS to Be Installed in New Seres Electric SUV, Richard Yu Says Huawei’s HarmonyOS to Be Installed in New Seres Electric SUV, Richard Yu Says

(Yicai Global) Oct. 22 -- HarmonyOS, Huawei Technologies’ self-developed operating system, will be installed in a new vehicle model made by the electric carmaker Seres, according to Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business group.

The new vehicle from California-based Seres will come out by the end of this year or early next year, Yu said at the Huawei Developer Conference 2021, a three-day event that started today.

HarmonyOS is now the fastest-growing intelligent terminal OS ever, with 150 million devices having been upgraded to Harmony OS 2, he said.

Yu did not disclose any other details about the new vehicle model, but it is expected to have a lot in common with the previous car Huawei and Seres cooperated on, the SF5, an extended range electric SUV that came out in April.

Seres, the EV unit of Chongqing Sokon Industry Group, used equipment from Huawei in the SF5, including the DriveOn Three-in-One electric drive system, Huawei HiCar and Huawei Sound speakers. But Huawei is believed to have been more closely involved with the development of the new model, tentatively known as the Wenjie M5, with the whole smart cockpit having been developed by Huawei.

Shenzhen-based Huawei sells the SF5 via its online store Vmall and some Huawei stores, marking the first time that the company has branched out into car sales.
