(Yicai Global) July 4 -- Telecoms giant Huawei Technologies will collaborate with Shanghai's East China Normal University to build a smart campus innovation lab that will promote the research and development of emerging information technologies, the Shanghai Observer reported.
Together they will develop frontier technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, fifth-generation communication networks, Internet of Things and Big Data, according to an agreement reached yesterday in Shenzhen, the report said.
Their partnership will focus on data science and engineering, database systems and design as well as R&D of next-generation chips and the application of these technologies in the education sector.
Nearly 500 ECNU graduates work for Shenzhen-based Huawei. Through this cooperation, Huawei hopes to promote ECNU's smart campus construction and the training of experts, said Peng Bo, vice president of Huawei's public and government affairs department.
ECNU will also set up a Huawei Information and Network Academy on its Shanghai campus to train professionals. The two organizations will cooperate to open various majors and general education courses and develop teaching materials. Huawei will provide the academy with technical equipment and cloud computing resources.
