(Yicai Global) Oct. 30 -- Huawei's shipments in China's mainland smartphone market increased by two-thirds per year to 41.5 million in the third quarter, taking a record high market share of 42 percent, while overall market deliveries fell 3 percent in the same period, Singapore-based technology analytics firm Canalys reported today.

Top rivals Vivo Communication Technology, Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications, Xiaomi and Apple all suffered contracting market shares. Their combined slice was only 50 percent of the market, down from 64 percent in last year's third quarter.

"Huawei is in a strong position to consolidate its dominance further amid 5G network rollout, given its tight operator relationships in 5G network deployment, and control over key components such as local network compatible 5G chipsets compared with local peers," said Nicole Peng, Canalys vice president of mobility.
