(Yicai Global) Nov. 24 -- WeChat Pay HK, a localized version of Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HK:0700] mobile payment platform, entered an agreement with the Mass Transit Railway Corp. (MTR) in Hong Kong, and they will bring mainland Chinese and Hong Kongers a way to purchase tickets in Hong Kong using mobile payments, Takungpao reported.
WeChat Pay will provide MTR with a mobile payment solution, allowing mainland tourists to buy subway tickets without exchanging currencies.
Hong Kong residents will be able to buy tickets with Hong Kong dollars directly through WeChat Pay HK, offering them a simpler, safer and more convenient mobile payment experience.
Tencent said it would like to work with MTR to advance Hong Kong's mobile payment market, giving travelers more payment options and simplifying locals' daily lives. Tencent said it will explore other cooperation opportunities with MTR.
Tencent previously made WeChat Pay HK available in Hong Kong taxis.
