(Yicai Global) Aug. 4 -- Chinese home appliances giant Hisense Group and German camera maker Leica Camera will debut the first laser television they have worked on together at a leading trade show for consumer and home electronics in Berlin next month.
The Leica Cine 1 will be on show at IFA 2022 from Sept. 2 to 6, Qingdao-based Hisense said yesterday. And according to a deal signed on July 26, Hisense and Leica will cooperate to speed up consumer adoption of ultrashort focal laser TVs, a type of projector, in the global market.
Many internet brands such as Sony, Samsung, LG, and HP have been working on laser televisions, a new type of technology that has developed rapidly in recent years.
Shipments of laser TVs in China jumped 32 percent to 280,000 last year, with sales up 28 percent to CNY4.7 billion (USD696 million), according to industry researcher Runto. Hisense had a 43 percent share of the market, and was the only manufacturer to ship more than 100,000 units in 2021, a 23 percent increase on the previous year.
“As the technology and market leader in the field of Laser TV systems, Hisense is the ideal partner to transfer the potential of high-definition 4k movie productions into a stunning home cinema experience,” Leica Chief Executive Matthias Harsch said.
“Home cinema entertainment is a rapidly growing market and the expansion of Leica's product offering in this segment represents a promising opportunity to delight new customers with Leica premium products,” he added.
Leica has joined hands with a number of Chinese firms, including a six-year partnership agreement with Huawei Technologies. The pair have brought out a line of smartphones equipped with certified Leica cameras. Leica has also linked with Xiaomi. The two cooperated on the 12S Ultra, the Chinese handset giant’s first model featuring a Leica camera which went on sale last month.
