(Yicai Global) Dec. 29 -- Heavy air pollution is forecast for central and southern areas of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, western Shandong and northern Henan provinces because of "unfavorable weather conditions."
The smog is expected to last from today until about Jan. 5, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The ministry has called on local governments to act promptly according to contingency plans.
It is not known exactly when the smog will abate given uncertainties about weather conditions, the ministry said. It will monitor air quality trends closely and will propose timely countermeasures.
