(Yicai Global) Dec. 18 -- The Hong Kong-based Hanergy Thin Film Power Group Ltd. signed an agreement with the Beijing New Energy Automotive Co. to cooperate in such fields as sunroof solution for cars, new energy vehicle (NEV) charging station, shared electric vehicles and power distribution in parks and plants.

This is the second deal Hanergy TFP has secured with an automotive giant after signing a deal with German Audi AG on thin film solar cell technology cooperation, the Securities Daily reported. The sunroof solution jointly developed by Hanergy and Beijing New Energy will apply the thin film solar power technology to vehicle's sunroof and roof, providing extra power for it to extend its mileage.

In addition, the two sides will also prepare backup power solutions for automobile global positioning system (GPS) and electronic locks in the shared electric vehicle field by using the thin film solar technology, the report said.

The Beijing firm will also adopt solutions developed by Hanergy including the thin film-based building integrated photovoltaics in car parks and factories, and carry out cooperation in cross-border research in agriculture, photovoltaic poverty alleviation and other related fields.

Features such as high conversion efficiency, flexibility and bendability associated with thin film solar cells have provided the technical prerequisite for its application in the automotive field, insiders pointed out. In the future, the thin film solar technology will excel in this field, they say.
