(Yicai Global) Oct. 24 -- Han Guohui, deputy editor-in-chief of Hainan Broadcasting Group and president of the Travel Channel, has resigned from his posts. Sources suggest he may join E-commerce China Dangdang Inc. [NYSE:DANG] to head up the firm's culture and entertainment business, Ifeng Tech reported on Friday.
Han, who turned 41 this year, began working for the broadcaster in 2000 and became associate director of the Travel Channel in 2008, taking charge of program production, major events and internal management. In July 2011, he took over as president and four years later led the channel through a complete industrialization transformation.
Han Guohui advocates and practices the television-to-online model, which goes from TV broadcasting to instant online spending, then on to offline real-time experiences. It connects traditional media, e-commerce platforms and other entities in a closed industrial value chain.
If Han does join Dangdang, it will enhance the firm's scope and the value of its intellectual properties in media chains and offline travel scenarios, said Tang Xiaohui, the firm's chief executive. His arrival would shore up weaknesses at the firm's entertainment and culture unit and significantly increase its competitiveness in online retail for the two sectors.
