(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Five Chinese carmakers, including AutoX and Didi Chuxing, have been included in a Californian vehicle agency's list of the world's 10 best autonomous driving companies based on their technological edge.
Guangzhou-based AutoX was No. 1 in one metric as its figure was 50,108 miles per disengagement, a gauge to show how little a driver needs to intervene and take manual control of driving, according to data that the California Department of Motor Vehicles released yesterday.
Beijing-based ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing was No. 3 with its number of 40,744 miles per disengagement. California-headquartered Cruise, owned by General Motors, was No. 2 in this regard.
Chinese companies WeRide, DeepRoute, and Pony.ai were also in the top 10 while search engine giant Baidu came in 11th.
The agency which issues driver's licenses reported other metrics. Waymo, a unit spun out of Google parent Alphabet, ranked as No. 1 in terms of testing mileage. The California-based autopilot company reported 2.3 million miles of test driving. Cruise was No. 2 with more than 876,100 miles, and Pony.ai No. 3 with over 305,600 miles.
Waymo was also the most powerful in scale. The company had a fleet of more than 690 robotaxis, while Cruise followed with its almost 140 units. AutoX had 44 cars, ranking as No. 4, and Pony.ai 38 units, coming in fifth on the list.
The DMV had received 410 autopilot collision reports as of Feb. 9. Guangzhou-based WeRide had three incidents and Pony.ai recorded two collisions. Other Chinese players had no accidents to report.
