(Yicai Global) Aug. 5 -- Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport saw a 32 percent increase in passenger throughput in July from June, but numbers are still way down from the same period last year and foreign travelers are few and far between.
Some 4.09 million travelers passed through the largest airport in southern China last month, up from 3.1 million in June, as the airline industry starts to recover from the impact of Covid-19, Baiyun airport said today.
However, passenger traffic was just two-thirds of what it was the same period last year and international travelers were down to a fraction of last year’s numbers to 50,953, a drop of 96.7 percent, as the global travel industry remains moribund.
Cargo, though, has held steady. Cargo and mail throughput was 152,000 metric tons in July, same as in June, and a dip of 3.4 percent year on year.
