(Yicai) June 13 -- Last year’s college graduates in China are earning an average monthly income that is 1 percent higher than those who graduated the previous year, according to a new report.

The mean salary of those who graduated in 2023 is CNY6,050 (USD835) a month, the latest Chinese College Graduates’ Employment Annual Report published by Mycos Research showed. 

Fifty-eight percent earn less than CNY6,000, 24 percent between CNY6,000 and CNY8,000, and 18 percent over CNY8,000. Of them, 7 percent make over CNY10,000, according to the report.

Those who majored in information security have the highest average monthly salary of CNY7,750, followed by microelectronics science and technology, software engineering, data science and big data tech, and electronic science and technology graduates.

Some newly added artificial intelligence-related majors saw their graduates enjoy incomes of around CNY7,000 a month.

Higher salaries are more common among college graduates in eastern China. In the Yangtze River Delta, wages have risen 69 percent within three years after graduation, surpassing the growth rate seen in other regions.

To better align with the China’s economic and social development needs, particularly the growth of emerging industries and technologies, the Ministry of Education made big changes to college majors this year.

This included adding, removing, and adjusting 3,389 courses, with high-power semiconductor science and engineering and biological breeding technologies added to the list of new majors.
