(Yicai Global) Nov. 5 -- Multinational makers of medical devices are showcasing their innovative products at the fourth China International Import Expo, which kicked off yesterday.

Companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Edwards Lifesciences, Siemens Healthineers, Boston Scientific, GE Healthcare, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Medtronic are exhibiting more than 100 high-value consumables and large medical devices, according to the trade expo’s website.

Exchanges and cooperation nurtured through the CIIE have helped innovative products from multinational medical companies enter the Chinese market. The world’s first radioactive glass microspheres used in radiation treatment for liver tumors debuted in China at the 2019 CIIE. Local production began in March and the first clinical procedure using the devices was in September.

Jiang Duo, vice president of Abbott Vascular China, told Yicai Global that Abbott’s divisions have brought their world-leading tech to the CIIE, including optical coherence tomography technology based on the world’s best algorithms for intravascular imaging, the instantaneous glucose monitoring system that enables glucose measurement without finger pricks and cell phone glucose measurement, and Alinitym, a fully automated nucleic acid analysis system.

Edwards Lifesciences is showcasing a variety of innovative products such as the new generation of Inspiris Resilia aortic valve and hemodynamic monitoring platform HemoSphere.

Siemens Healthineers has more than 20 innovative products on display. The three major ones are the ultra-high-end PET/CT, which completes body scans in 15 seconds, the world’s first 0.55T magnetic resonance imaging system, and the new Artis phenol angiography system, which is making its debut in Asia.

International drugmaker Roche began to approach the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone for relevant cooperation at last year’s CIIE. The pair formed a long-term partnership to explore several medical fields yesterday.
