(Yicai Global) March 9 -- Mobile phone maker Meizu Technology's assimilation into the investment company owned by the founder of Chinese auto giant Geely, which purchased a majority stake in the handset manufacturer in July last year, was completed yesterday with the formation of a new firm, paving the way for the launch of a new generation of car-phone operating systems.
Xingji Meizu was established yesterday, through the merger of Hubei Xingji Shidai Technology, controlled by Li Shufu, with Zhuhai, southern Guangdong province-based Meizu, Securities Times reported.
Shen Ziyu has been appointed as chair and chief executive officer of Xingji Meizu. He is also chair and CEO of ECARX Technology, a company founded by Shen and Li in 2017, which is engaged in the design and development of automotive chips.
Xingji Meizu will apply its in-car operating system Flyme Auto to the transportation ecology created by Li, the report said, citing Shen.
Xingji Meizu will be engaged in three main business divisions, namely handsets, extended reality and wearables, the report added. It will invest over CNY10 billion (USD1.4 billion) in technological research to support business growth.
The new company, which is based in Wuhan, central Hubei province, is already ready to launch its new handset series, Flyme 10, as well as the in-car operating system Flyme Auto at the end of the month, the report said.
Its first flagship store, covering 800 square meters, will open in Wuhan soon, and will be followed by another 1,000 over the next three years, the report said. The company will also open 400 after-sales service centers this year.
