(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Paris-headquartered BNP Paribas has become the first foreign underwriter for a Chinese firm's short-term bond issuance in the Asian country's interbank market. 

A China unit of BNP Paribas has acted as an underwriter for China Global Leasing's CNY500 million (USD71 million) bill issuance with a 16-day maturity, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

Since June, China has allowed foreign financial institutions to underwrite bonds in the country.
