(Yicai Global) Nov. 2 -- Communication equipment maker Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies Co. [SHA:600498] (FTT) and German software giant SUSE Linux AG will set up China's first cloud storage-focused joint innovation lab.

The pair has signed a cooperation agreement, C114 reported yesterday. The facility will combine the two firms' respective strengths to help boost their influence and service ability in the field of information communications technology (ICT).

SUSE boasts 25 years of experience in providing software engineering services, said Jiang Yongqing, SUSE's Asia-Pacific general manager. The company is committed to providing support for corporate clients in computing and information management and offering cloud infrastructure services based on a reliable Linux operating system, Jiang said.

FTT is a leading communication equipment producer and network solutions provider in China. It is a major supplier of network infrastructure products in the country, offering optical networking, broadband data, and optical fiber and cable products.

The lab's research will help promote the development of cloud computing and storage technology in China, Asia and the world, said FTT Vice President He Jianming.
