(Yicai Global) Nov. 13 -- State-owned Chinese carmaker FAW Group plans to recall over a quarter million cars under its own Besturn and the Mazda marque due to issues with fuel pumps.

The Jilin province-based firm, which has a joint venture with Mazda, will recall 280,022 vehicles in total, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement today. Affected models include Besturn B70 cars made between Jan. 4, 2011 and April 11, 2011; Besturn X80s made between Sept. 2, 2013 and Jan. 4, 2016; Besturn B90s made between Sept. 4, 2013 and Sept. 19, 2015; and Mazda 6s made between Sept. 2, 2013 and March 31, 2016.

Some of these vehicles have suffered abnormal wear of the fuel pump carbon brush and commutator, which could lead to a flameout if the erosion interrupts the flow of gasoline. FAW will replace the parts in question free of charge.

FAW shares [SHE:000800] went largely unaffected, closing up 0.58 percent at CNY6.95 (USD1), though its Japanese counterpart lost 1.78 percent to JPY1,183 (USD10.4).
