(Yicai Global) Feb. 9 -- Gao Weidong, former chairman of Chinese liquor giant Kweichow Moutai, is suspected of accepting bribes.
The People’s Procuratorate of Liupanshui in southwestern China's Guizhou province has charged Gao with taking advantage of his position to seek benefits for others while illegally accepting a large amount of property so in accordance with the law, he should be held criminally responsible for taking bribes, the public prosecutor announced recently.
The Guizhou arm of the party discipline supervision committee said in December that Gao has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and discharged from public office. A bit more than a month after that, Gao revealed details of his past of corruption in a Guizhou TV show.
Gao had been under investigation since March 2022, two years after becoming the chief of the major distiller. He had also headed the provincial coal geology bureau since August 2021.
Based on the TV show, Gao had received items of high value including property. He had been colluding with related people before and after the case was filed to avoid exposure.
