Electric-Car Maker Tesla Sees China Sales Quadruple in 30 Days Despite Hiking Prices

(CBN Global) March 28 -- US electric-car maker, Tesla Motor Inc. [NASDAQ:TSLA], has seen a four-fold increase in sales in China over the last 30 days, despite a second price hike of between CNY50,000 (USD7,700) to CNY70,000 per unit.

China was Tesla's second-largest market last year, second only to the US. China sales over the Christmas shopping season were equivalent to sales in the whole of Europe, according to Mr. Zhu Xiaotong, Tesla's general manager in China.

Tesla production would be localized in China within three years, said the company's founding CEO, Mr.Elon Musk, last year.

Tesla opened four new experience centers in China in the first quarter, and there are rumors that it will launch a new plant in Suzhou. When asked about the Suzhou plant, Mr. Zhu said that neither the location of the new plant nor the partner for the joint venture has been decided.
