(Yicai Global) Oct. 25 -- Epic science-fiction blockbuster movie Dune has helped IMAX China Holding to gross over CNY250 million (USD39 million) of box office revenue so far this month.
Released in the Chinese mainland on Oct. 22, Dune took in CNY33 million (USD5.2 million) in IMAX box office on the opening weekend, raising IMAX China’s total earnings to a new record for the month of October, the Chinese unit of renowned image maximum cinema service provider IMAX said today.
Dune has been shown in more than 700 IMAX theaters in China, bringing in 23 percent of the country’s total box office in the period, despite being projected in only 1 percent of the total screens, IMAX China said, noting that it had the largest share in box office revenue among movies released in the country after Covid-19.
China-made The Battle at Lake Changjin has also contributed to IMAX China’s record box office earnings in October, although the firm did not release the movie’s figure. The war epic film bagged over CNY5.3 billion (USD830 million) in 25 days, as of 0:00 a.m. today, becoming China’s third highest-grossing movie, per statistics from Chinese ticketing platform Maoyan.
IMAX China’s stock price [HKG:1970] closed up 0.5 percent at HKD11.56 (USD1.49) today, giving it a market cap of HKD4 billion (USD515 million).
