(Yicai Global) July 27 -- Wang Tao, founder of China's leading unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developer, DJI Technology Co., expressed his opposition to 'indiscriminate bans' that some local governments imposed on UAV products, proposing that the company can assist governments in developing UAV safety management plans.

Wang made his proposal at a meeting of the standing committee of the Shenzhen Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference yesterday.

"Many local governments know little about the UAV industry, and UAV regulation is reduced to an indiscriminate ban on all drones in most cases," Wang complained. "This has significantly limited the usage scenarios of UAV products, preventing the new technology from reaching its full potential."

DJI has been committed to developing effective safety management solutions for UAVs, and hopes to help local governments draw up a complete set of drone security management plans, he added. The goal is to ensure public security and broaden UAV's applications at the same time.

If these plans can be successfully implemented, he suggested, Shenzhen will be able to export drones as well as UAV safety management solutions to countries all around the globe, making the city a pace-setter and rule-maker in regulating UAV flights in China and the world alike.

The number of UAV manufacturers in Shenzhen exceeded 300 last year, public information shows. They sold 95 per cent of consumer drones in the world, hence the city's nickname 'drone capital of the world.'

After nine incidents of unmanned aerial vehicles disrupting flights at Chengdu's Shuangliu airport early this year, many local governments imposed a ban on drones to ensure airline and aviation safety, causing 'collateral damage' to the city's UAV industry.

The political consultative conference is an important institution of the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system in China. It is comprised of members of the Communist Party and personages outside the party, entrepreneurs and other industry representatives. Members of the conference are elected once every five years. They are responsible for proposing suggestions to the central and local governments.
