(Yicai) Oct. 21 -- DJI Technology has filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Defense for including the world's largest drone manufacturer in its list of Chinese companies involved in military affairs.

"DJI has been dedicated to promoting the application of civil drone products and opposes the use of its products for military purposes," the Shenzhen-based company told Xinhua on Oct. 19.

In January, the DoD updated its Chinese military companies list, which identifies Chinese military firms directly or indirectly operating in the US. The department added DJI and chipmaker Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment China.

"The designation is erroneous, so the company decided to seek relief in US federal court after more than 16 months of efforts to engage with the DoD," Xinhua quoted DJI as saying.

On Oct. 16, Reuters reported that the US Customs and Border Protection had halted the import of some DJI drones, citing the Uygur Forced Labor Prevention Act. The company later commented that it was working to provide US Customs with documentation to prove its products comply with the UFLPA.

DJI is not the first Chinese company to take action against decisions from the DoD. In August, AMEC said it filed a complaint with a US court against the DoD for its inclusion in the Chinese military companies list.

In May, Hesai Technology sued the DoD for adding the three-dimensional light detection and ranging technologies developer to a blacklist of companies allegedly linked to the Chinese military. Hesai was removed from the list after the ruling.
