(Yicai Global) Aug. 10 -- The historic move by Beijing Xiaoju Technology Co., operator of ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing, to acquire rival Uber Technologies Inc.'s China assets last week took many Uber China employees by surprise. In an open letter to these employees, Didi Chuxing co-founder and CEO Cheng Wei stressed that the two teams would soon become 'one team.'
Just like marriage, what matters for an union to work is for both parties to share the same values rather than appearances, Mr. Cheng said in his letter.
Didi Chuxing has much experience with mergers, he said, having been formed from the merger of Kuaidi Dache and Didi Dache last year to become China's largest transport network company.
Despite some challenges and delays caused by internal system differences, Mr. Cheng expects the merger to be complete within the next two to four weeks. "We will become 'one team' and achieve 'one dream.' Your understanding and support is very important to us," he said.
Uber China is to retain its brand and businesses as an independent operator, something Mr. Cheng believes is the right decision.
