(Yicai Global) July 20 -- Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing has rebranded its carpool service and has introduced fare discounts for cars that arrive later than expected to entice users.

Didi's carpool service has been renamed as Qingcai Pinche with a new logo, Beijing-based Didi said in a post today on its official Weibo account. The rebranding exercise does not imply the launch of an independent app, it said, adding that Qingcai Pinche will remain part of its ride-hailing network.

The new fare guarantee for delayed vehicles has already begun, Didi said. Riders will pay CNY1 (14.3 US cents) less for every three minutes a car is overdue up to a maximum of CNY15.

Launched in 2015 as a spinoff service based on the firm’s ride-hailing business Didi Express, the carpool service aims to cut travel costs by boosting seat use. Didi data show that since its launch, the service has served 2.9 billion customers, with a total 4.5 billion kilometers notched up in the most recent year.

In April, Didi announced a new strategic goal of achieving a global target of 800 million monthly active users within three years, while also aiming for 100 million orders a day. It has 340 million MAUs at present, with average daily orders of less than 50 million, according to Iyiou, a tech information website.

To achieve those goals, the ride-hailer last month made a number of business adjustments, including personnel changes and an upgrade in the organizational structure of its taxi division on June 15, and the trial operation of its cargo transport business that was first launched in Chengdu and Hangzhou on June 23.
