(Yicai) March 26 -- Cummins said it will increase its research and development investments in China to expand the US diesel engine giant's green energy solutions, aligning with the carbon neutrality goals of the world's second-largest economy.

Cummins will advance multi-fuel engine platforms in China covering diesel, natural gas, hydrogen, and methanol, the Indiana-based company announced at an event celebrating its 50th anniversary in the Asian country held in Wuhan yesterday. It will also develop critical components for hydrogen internal combustion engines, including hydrogen injectors, hydrogen fuel cell air compressors, electric superchargers, and high-pressure hydrogen storage systems, it added.

Cummins also unveiled 50 zero-carbon strategic initiatives targeting reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, water waste, and hazardous waste disposal costs. The firm will ally with Chinese partners to accelerate technological innovation and application, driving green transformation across upstream and downstream supply chains, it said.

Since entering China, Cummins' cumulative investment in the country has surpassed USD1 billion, including its East Asia R&D center in Wuhan, its biggest technical hub outside the US.

Cummins has joint ventures with multiple Chinese commercial vehicle makers, including Wuhan-based Dongfeng Motor, Beijing-based Beiqi Foton Motor, and Hefei-based JAC Group, providing customized product solutions tailored to diverse market demands.

Cummins revenue from China operations, including JVs, topped USD6.5 billion last year, accounting for roughly 19 percent of its total income, according to its latest financial report.
