China's Stock Regulator May Cover New Sci-Tech Board in His Debut Press Briefing China's Stock Regulator May Cover New Sci-Tech Board in His Debut Press Briefing

(Yicai Global) Feb. 27 -- Yi Huiman, who was appointed head of China's securities watchdog a month ago, is likely to be questioned about Shanghai's much-anticipated science and technology innovation board at his first meeting with reporters today.

Along with Li Chao and Fang Xinghai, the vice-chairmen of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, and Huang Hongyuan, head of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Yi is scheduled to hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m., the State Council Information Office said in a statement yesterday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said in November that the Shanghai bourse will launch a new market and experiment with a registration-based system for listed companies to boost innovation. Work on the new venue is well underway and it is expected to launch in the first half of this year.

Yi, who became the CSRC's ninth chairman on Jan. 26, led a study team concerned with the new board and its pilot registration system last week.

Before taking up his new post, Yi headed the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the world's largest lender by assets.
