(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- With the full implementation of China's high-speed rail (HSR) network construction and the further enhancement of the velocity of HSR trains, CRRC Co., Ltd. [SH:601766; HK:01766] will lead the way in developing new security technologies for rail traffic monitoring and early warning, aiming to provide better security for the operation of high-speed rail trains.
Xinhua News Agency reports that Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. under the Zhuzhou Institute of CRRC Co., Ltd. said on Oct. 31 that the goal is to increase the complete warning rate of HSR trains and other rail transit operations by 30 percent, and reduce the accident rate caused by technical defects by 50 percent, among others.
Mr. Yang Weifeng, deputy director of the Rail Transportation Technology Center of Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd., said that currently, domestic high-speed rail trains are equipped with thousands of sensors. Due to the need to monitor more data, another one-third or even half of this number of sensors should be installed. More high-precision sensors will help to significantly enhance vehicle-monitoring capability, and that of the natural environment and tracks.
This is one of the three major research and development projects launched by the CRRC the other day -- the high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation) train with a speed of 600 kilometers per hour, the international multimodal high-speed train with a speed of 400 kilometers per hour, and safety technologies for rail transport.
CRRC is the world's largest rail transportation equipment supplier. Since Aug. 2008, HSRs have developed rapidly in mainland China. In 2014, the total operating mileage of HSRs reached 16,000 kilometers, making China the country with the world's longest high-speed operating mileage, as well as the largest scale of construction.
