CRRC Qiqihar Sends 10 New Carriages to Kenya for Mombasa-Nairobi Railway

(Yicai Global) June 2 -- China's CRRC Qiqihar Rolling Stock Co. shipped 10 railway container trucks to the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway from the northeastern city of Harbin today, two days after its opening ceremony, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported.

The Kenyan railroad was built by China Road and Bridge Corporation and used Chinese technology, standards, funds and equipment. CRRC Qiqihar received the biggest orders for carriages, and provided 10 years of maintenance to a foreign company for the first time.

Reports suggest the railroad ordered another 60 wagons in March this year.

The Mombasa-Nairobi Railway runs from the port city of Mombasa to the Kenyan capital and back. It was officially opened on May 31 and is 480 kilometers in length. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a special envoy, State Councilor Wang Yong, to attend the opening ceremony.
