(Yicai Global) March 8 -- China's state-backed locomotive maker CRRC Corp. has won a large order for its IGBT modules from an Indian manufacturer for the second time following their 2016 debut onto the local market.
The winning products -- over 1,00 in all -- will be installed on 105 Indian locomotives, Hunan province-based CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co. said yesterday. This is the largest order to date for the modules in India, chinanews.com reported.
IGBT -- Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor -- is a semiconductor known as the central processor of power equipment and is the core of energy conversion and transmission technology. It finds wide application in rail transit, smart grids, aerospace and other fields.
US and European firms dominated India's IGBT module market until 2016 when CRRC became the first Chinese concern to break their stranglehold, a company product manager related. Its devices clinched an order for the upgrading of 100 Indian WAG-9 locomotives in 2016. These have functioned in good condition ever since and laid a good foundation for the firm to procure new orders, the product manager added.
