(Yicai Global) Oct. 23 -- The first Boston orange line subway train developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. under CRRC Corp.[SHA:601766; HK:1766] debuted this week and is expected to arrive in the US in December, thus becoming the first rail transit vehicles and equipment made in China to land in the US market.
The entire subway train, which is 'tailored' for Boston, has full independent intellectual property rights and is the first domestic subway vehicle produced to US standards. As the internationally recognized high-end market for rail transit, the US has high requirements for technology, localization and law. Making complete vehicles for the US shows China's rail transit capacity has passed a stringent 'stress test' that is fully recognized, state-run xinhuanet.com reported.
China's rail transit has emerged in recent years, breaking a global high-end market that US and European multinational companies have traditionally dominated.
China has almost all the advanced core technology of rail transport equipment worldwide, and the cost of its construction of a high-speed rail is on average only about half of that of foreign companies, while construction efficiency is more than double that of overseas firms, said Ding Rongjun, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As a result, China is expected to receive a stream of orders from the US, Europe and other high-end markets after this first Boston order.
