(Yicai Global) April 9 -- IQiyi, Youku, Bilibili and eight other Chinese audio and video platforms have been told to take corrective action after being summoned to a meeting with the Zhejiang Consumer Council to discuss problems such as additional charging, different prices for Android and iOS consumers, and suspected price discrimination, the China Consumer Journal reported today.
Among other issues, the platforms also automatically renew charges without notifying users, while automatic renewal is set by default and is hard to cancel. Their data collection approval systems also do not work as expected, and they only allow fixed recharge amounts, making it difficult to refund the balance. In addition, customers cannot use their balance in their Android device to top up an iOS system and vice versa.
The others called to yesterday's meeting were Tencent Video, Mango TV, Sohu Video, Tencent Sports, PPTV, LeTV, Ximalaya and Qingting FM.
All of these websites should submit rectification plans and schedules to the consumer council before April 17 and implement them in earnest, Han Zhibin, deputy secretary general of the council, said at the meeting. The council will pay attention to those who fail to make changes and will deal with them, Han added.
