(Yicai Global) July 6 -- Dongfang Yifeng, a fluid simulation large model created by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, reportedly garnered the Super AI Leader award at the World AI Conference 2023, which opened in Shanghai today.
Dongfang Yifeng was developed by Comac's Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute based on telecom giant Huawei Technologies' Ascend AI processor, Wenhui Daily reported.
The AI model can achieve three-dimensional supercritical wing fluid simulation and can simulate a large jet’s multi-scenario flying conditions in a fast and high-precision way, accelerating the process of large aircraft research and development, according to the report.
Shanghai-based Comac was responsible for China's first self-developed large passenger plane, the C919. Built to compete with planes manufactured by Airbus and Boeing, the 164-seater airliner made its maiden commercial flight at the end of May.
Five AI projects won the SAIL award this year, including Huawei Cloud's OptVerse AI solver, the AI Engine in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform developed by US chipmaker Qualcomm, a Robotics Drug Discovery Platform from Shanghai-based biomedicine startup XtalPi, and the paper titled 'Identifying Degradation Patterns of Lithium-Ion Batteries From Impedance Spectroscopy Using Machine Learning’ and co-authored by Zhang Yunwei, a Cambridge University research associate.
The WAIC began awarding the SAIL prize in 2018, when the annual conference was set up. This year was the first to include a CNY2 million (USD275,912) prize pool for the winners.
WAIC 2023 had more corporate attendees and a larger exhibition area than in previous years, mainly driven by the boom in AI. The conference attracted more than 400 businesses to the Shanghai Expo Center's 50,000-square-meter exhibition area, with over 30 large models showcased.
