CNNC Unearths Huge Uranium Deposit in NE China's Songliao Basin CNNC Unearths Huge Uranium Deposit in NE China's Songliao Basin

(Yicai Global) July 6 -- China National Nuclear Power Co. [SHA: 601985] (CNNC) recently found a sandstone uranium ore vein with a total length of more than 10 kilometers in the southwestern Songliao Basin.

It holds the potential for development into a massive uranium mine.

The ore body's thickness is great and stable and the uranium content per square meter is high, the company's official website stated July 4.

The new discovery is a major prospecting strike after the Baolong Mountain medium-sized uranium deposit hit upon in the area, and also consolidates the resource base for the construction of the Tongliao Uranium Mine, the company said.

The Songliao Basin is a large meso-cenozoic -- spanning two eras, the first from 252.17 million to 66 million years ago, the second from then to the present -- sedimentary deposit in northeastern China that straddles the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
