(Yicai Global) June 11 -- China National Nuclear Corporation has delivered the first batch of core components for an international cooperation project to build the world's largest fusion experimental reactor, dubbed the 'Artificial Sun.' 

China is the first country to supply core parts of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor following the dispatch to the project site in France, Xinhua News Agency reported. 

ITER refers to an international research project involving China, the US, Russia, the EU, Japan, South Korea, and India. The group completed engineering designs for the project in 2001 and project executive started in 2006. The theory behind the project is similar to how the sun works.

The project involves the construction of the world's largest tokamak, a magnetic device aimed at proving the feasibility of fusion technology as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy. 

China has sent a 10,000-ton magnet supporter, integral to operation stability, from a production base in southwestern Guizhou province. The country joined the project in 2006 and will contribute around 10 percent of the work towards the facility's construction.
