(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 -- Following To avoid potential safety hazards, public security departments in Chongqing will implement an information registration system for 3D technology and its applicable industries .

The Chinese municipality has become one of the first regions to include 3D technology and related sectors as special industries for registration and management, per Chongqing's Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Progress in information technology makes 3D printing widely applicable in such areas as construction, aviation and medical treatment, but the technology is concealing, cost-effective and detection-evasive, and may be used by criminals in unlawful activities, making it dangerous to the public.

Regulators will require basic information for

• 3D printer manufacturers and sellers
• Firms that process 3D-printed products
• Those who teach about 3D printing
• Those who promote 3D printing
• Legal representatives and those in charge of firms' 3D printing
• Staff who have access to 3D printers and data modeling

They will also take information on public security responsibility at relevant companies and institutions and details of the actual printers in a bid to avoid the technology being used for nefarious purposes.
