(Yicai Global) Jan. 25 -- Chongqing's gross domestic product was nearly CNY2 trillion (USD320 billion) last year, surpassing that of Tianjin and ranking fifth in China behind those of Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Chongqing's GDP rose 9.3 percent annually to CNY1.95 trillion, per economic data the city released yesterday.
Chongqing and Tianjin are both municipalities directly under the central government, the GDP of the former was CNY90.5 billion higher than that of the latter last year.
Chongqing had 30.5 million permanent residents living on its 82,400 square kilometers as of the end of 2016, while Tianjin's 12,000 square kilometers were home to 15.6 million. Tianjin's GDP was CNY14.48 billion more than that of Chongqing in 2016.
